October 5, 2017

The Monticello Village Board met on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Calvin Boldebuck from Congressman Mark Pocan’s office spoke to the board during the Public Appearances section of the meeting.

Boldebuck noted that Pocan’s office would be available to assist the village in applying for grants for a number of projects.

During the Public Safety/Fire District report, the board learned that the fire department would be replacing three pagers at a cost of $1,250. The department also planned on adding a second Assistant Chief position. As far as the budget goes, Trustee Larry Strause stated that the Fire Department’s budget would remain the same as last year at $76,000. He also stated that as of the September 7th meeting, the fire department had responded to nine calls in the past month; four in Mount Pleasant, one in the Village of Monticello and four in the Town of Washington.

Village President Tere Dunlap commented that a new fire truck would most likely be needed in two or three years, and it would probably cost over $400,000.

In the Parks and Recreation report Trustee Rene Nicholson updated the board on the remodeling of the concession stand. The Community Club is paying for the project. They would like to complete the remodel this fall.

Nicholson reported that the cost of security cameras for the park area would be $1,818.48. The Community Club, Monticello Lions Club, and the Village will split the cost of the cameras.

Village President Tere Dunlap reported on the UW Madison UniverCity Program. She listed some projects that this program could assist the village with including Tree Inventory, Civil Engineering, Cemetery Plotting, Internet Classes, and Marketing. Dunlap encouraged the board to come with a list that could be included in a “wish list” for the program.
