The Belleville Wildcats improved to a 2-0 conference record on Friday night with their Homecoming shut out of the Waterloo Pirates.
"Our defense continues to stand strong," explained Coach Chase Ritter. "We are building up week to week. This game was won on all three sides, offense, defensive and special teams. It was a team effort. Waterloo played a great game and threw us off our game plan. We played with a lot of heart and the defense gave us a chance to score multiple times, with the special teams adding a score of their own."
The Wildcats were first on the scoreboard first with a touchdown scored by Drew Shrader on an 8-yard pass from Nate Mabis, in the second quarter. The PAT attempt failed. The halftime score was Belleville 6, Waterloo 0.
In the middle of the third quarter QB Nate Mabis ran it in from three yards out. Mabis then passed it to Jared Schulting to score the two-point conversion. With one hundredth of a second left in the third quarter, Dalton Fahey scored a touchdown on a 75-yard punt return. Cody McMillan's extra point was successful. The final leak in the Pirate's ship sprung with less than three minutes left in the game when Jack Diederich ran it in from 14 yards out. Once again, McMillan's kick was good.
Belleville won the game, 28 to 0.
Sawyer Fahey rushed for 61 yards on 10 carries for the Wildcats, while Jack Diederich rushed for 42 yards on four carries. Quarterback Nate Mabis racked up 182 passing yards.
"We look to continue to improve as we play a very tough Cambridge team this week in the road," finished Coach Ritter.
The Cambridge game kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
