Rufener Feels Public Hearing Was a Farce

September 28, 2017

Dear Editor,

Call Wisconsin Farmers Union, (608) 234-3741.

The public hearing on Saturday about Pinnacle Dairy was a farce, as the lady in charge speaks, as Indian would say, with forked tongue, as she promised that I could finish my talk but then closed the meeting without the rest of my talk, it seems the people have no voice as the Monroe Evening Times never had one word about what went on which the 300+ people at the meeting and the dairy had a spill up north and they didn’t report. The way it came out a reporter found out, but the dairy never got a fine. If it would have been a small farmer they would have tried to take his farm. The DNR is not doing its job, so we should get in touch with the EPA. Call Ron Johnson (US Senator). If this goes through, then 80 small dairies will go out of business, as we have a world surplus of milk and they pay more to the big one and the processor would rather deal with one instead of 80 small farmers. So property values would fall and Carousel Farms would buy the farms for a song, that’s why we should not deal with Carousel, they are not your friends. If we get 10” of rain there is no way to avoid a spill. They also said they would use local businesses but yet put up its own cement plant. They don’t follow the law and zoning. It is time to take back our rights and make them follow the law. 1) What we have to get bus loads of people go to Madison and talk with the Governor and make sure these demands and give the rights back to the people, county and final township. 2) Bonding 1 million for every thousand cows (8 million). 3) Stop all building until a fair assessment is made. The Farmers Union is getting buses. The Governor can make these changes, under executive order.

They should have to have a waste water treatment plant as the manure is the same as a city of 100,000.
