Otto Anson and Riley Medenwald have been named National Merit Scholarship finalists, earning the designation with a qualifying score on the Preliminary SAT.
For the first time in school history, Belleville High School has two National Merit Scholarship semifinalists in the same year. They are seniors Otto Anson and Riley Medenwald. Both Otto and Riley earned the designation with a qualifying score on the Preliminary SAT. From the 1.6 million high school juniors at more than 22,000 high schools around the country who took the test, Otto and Riley are two of only 16,000 students nationwide to advance in the process. Both will take the SAT this fall. Approximately 90% of the semifinalists move on to become finalists in February.
Belleville High School's last qualifier was Michelle Chalupnik, in 2013. Michelle was a National Merit Scholarship winner that year. For a high school of approximately 275, Belleville matched or exceeded the number of National Merit Scholarship semifinalists from schools in the area with student populations of over 1,800. We are small, but we are mighty!
