THERESA FOXEN

Theresa Foxen, age 88 of New Glarus, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Hometown Assisted Living in Belleville, WI, with family by her side. She was born on February 22, 1929, in Luxemburg, IA, to her parents, Peter and Margaret (Ries) Merkes.
On April 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Leonard Foxen in Luxemburg. Theresa worked at Oaktron and Mitex in Monroe for over thirty years. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belleville. Theresa enjoyed playing cards, gardening, puzzles, embroidery, quilting, and sewing. She also liked to return to Iowa to visit her family.
Theresa is survived by her children, Leon (Wilma) Foxen of Beloit, WI, Doris (Gene) Gowey of Oconomowoc, WI, Charles (Mary) Foxen of Blue Mounds, WI, Mary (Al) Chapman of Belleville, WI, Kay (Stan) Turner of Monticello, WI, and Rick (Michelle) Foxen of Monticello, WI; thirteen grandchildren, Jefferson Foxen, Leon Foxen Jr., Theresa (Jeff Stevens) Gowey, Lauri (Jeff) Olson, Melissa (Jamie) Bolcerek, Michael Foxen, Jeremy (Casey) Foxen, Jamie (Bob) Gottschalk, Scott (Tracy) Chapman, Michelle (Brad) Hakes, Matthew (Allison) Turner, Elizabeth Foxen and Ryan Foxen; sixteen great-grandchildren, Cory, Aryel, Baylee, Ayden, Ashlyn, Weston, Lainey, Eli, Ava, Brayden, Gavin, Dylan, MaKenzie, Taylor, Nolan and Averie. She is further survived by her sister, Mary Jane (Joel) Glennon of Dubuque, IA; brother, Arnold (Jackie) Merkes of Manchester, IA; sisters-in-law, Germaine Foxen of Luxemburg, IA, Veronica Gogel of Cascade, IA, and Theresa Merkes of Dubuque, IA; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard in 2007; five brothers, Art, Ambrose, Pete, Al and John; sisters Katie Foxen and Clara Weis; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Sylvia, Yvonne and Lou; and brothers-in-law, Joe and Melvin.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 30, 2017, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 338 S. Harrison Street, Belleville, WI, with the Rev. Michael Moon officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, WI.
Relatives and friends called from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Avenue, New Glarus, WI.
