Sugar River Transit Keeps Communities Connected
June 29, 2017
Seniors need transportation for many reasons. Mainly to get where they need to go, however it may be because they no longer drive, they need help in accessing services, and even because they want or need socialization. In rural Green County, seniors who don’t drive may find themselves isolated and disconnected from the communities where they have lived and worked for many years. Take a trip north of Monroe and you will encounter a wealth of interesting spots as you venture through Monticello, New Glarus, and finally into Belleville. Each village, though small, has its own unique flavor and offerings to the growing family or active senior. Under the surface though is the warmth and history of the community members who make each village special.
These community connections are not only nice, they also contribute to your overall health. AARP reports that social contact can prevent long-term illness, lowers your risk for depression, and keeps you optimistic about the future, to name a few! The other good news is for seniors in Monticello, New Glarus, or Belleville there is now a public transportation service available for you to use. It is called Sugar River Transit.
Sugar River Transit serves residents of any age of Belleville, New Glarus, and Monticello by offering an on-demand service on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pick-ups and drop offs are available anywhere in Belleville, New Glarus, and Monticello, and can help you visit your local clinic, get groceries, try a program at the Senior Center, or visit a friend for lunch.
