House Finches have been received by most feeders more so than another visitor who stayed with us. This finch, sometimes confused with a Purple Finch, who is a true native, does not get the same wrath as the House Sparrow.
Back in 1940, the legislature passed a law forbidding trade of wild birds; a small number of caged House Finches were released on Long Island. The population exploded and now we have House Finches across the eastern U.S., not only in the west.
