New Glarus Sixth Grade and Chaperones: Class of 2023 at Wyalusing, the evening of "Family Night."

The sixth grade class, along with chaperones and staff, made their 53rd annual trip to Wyalusing during the "ever-changing-Wisconsin-weather" second week of May.

Before getting to Wyalusing State Park, the group stopped at Stonefield Village in Cassville to tour the home and farmstead of Wisconsin's first governor, Nelson Dewey. While there, we enjoyed country school lessons first hand, watched a blacksmith at work, made butter, and enjoyed a delicious ice cream cone! The funds for this portion of our trip were made possible by a grant received from the Excellence in Education Fund.

While at Wyalusing State Park students enjoyed a variety of experiences, including a presentation about early peoples in the area entitled, Stones, Bones, and Sticks, and an "out of this world" presentation called Star Splitters! We appreciate the generous donation from the New Glarus Brewery which allowed for both of these educational experiences to happen.

Following our journey to Wyalusing State Park, the travelers stopped at Bethel Horizons to learn about Wisconsin's wonderful plants and animals. Students enjoyed a variety of activities including a nature hike, scavenger hunt, bird watching, and handling salamanders and snakes! We are grateful to the New Glarus Community Foundation for helping us finance this portion of our journey. Our own New Glarus PTO also helped to fund our trip by covering the transportation, and a portion of our food bill...which, 113 people can build quite the appetite after hiking! Thank you to all of these fine community groups, as well as the chaperones and families for continuing to support such a wonderful educational trip!
