RICHARD W. HARTMAN

Richard Warren Hartman, age 69 of New Glarus, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2017, at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI, surrounded by his family.
Richard is survived by his wife, Virgiann; children, Benjamin (Anna) Hartman of San Diego, CA, and Nicole (Jesse) Maynard of New Glarus, WI; grandchildren, Cole Maynard, Lily Maynard, Holly Maynard, Zachary Hartman and Alexander Hartman; mother, Beverly Hartman of Kenosha, WI; brother, David (Debra) Hartman of Two Rivers, WI; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Tim and Sondra Abraham of New Glarus, WI.
Dick is preceded in death by his father, Louis Hartman; and grandparents, Warren and Doris House.
Richard was born April 10, 1948, in Kenosha, WI, to Louis and Beverly Hartman. He graduated from Tremper High School, Kenosha, in 1966 and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in School Psychology in 1974. He married Virgiann (nee Borchardt) in 1969. Dick worked in the Manitowoc/Two Rivers Schools as a School Psychologist from 1974 to 1976, Oconto Unified School District in Oconto, WI, as a School Psychologist and Director of Special Education from 1976 to 1997. He then accepted a position as Director of Special Education at the Marinette School District, where he worked until retirement in 2005.
Dick was a social, active man who was deeply involved in all the communities he lived in. He was currently an active and dedicated member of Primrose Lutheran Church and loved singing in the choir. Dick was also the Treasurer of the New Glarus Lions Club and a Board Member of the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club in New Glarus. Dick was a great family man, a loving father and "Papa." His family and friends will always remember him as an avid golfer and a good source of entertainment.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Primrose Lutheran Church, 8770 Ridge Drive, Belleville, WI, with Rev. Nicole Espe officiating. Inurnment of cremains will follow in the Primrose East Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Primrose Lutheran Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Dick's life from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club, W4764 Edelweiss Road, New Glarus, WI.
The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
Memorials are suggested to the Primrose Lutheran Church Music Program or the New Glarus Lions Club.
