ATVs in New Glarus

May 4, 2017

Dear Editor,

Not very long ago, an ATV Club from the area asked the New Glarus Village Board to consider allowing ATVs in the village to park and stop at local eateries and village attractions. I think this is a good idea for tourists and businesses in town. First of all, it brings different tourists to New Glarus and provides recreation for those visitors. People can enjoy the countryside and the village as well. As long as safety and noise rules and village ordinances are followed, I do not see why this would not be a good idea.

Some residents might not like the noise of the ATVs, but if the owners of these four-wheelers followed the same rules as the snowmobiles, then the village should be able to allow them to be in town. Right now, motorcycles can go anywhere in town and they are loud. ATVs should be no problem if they come into town from the legally designated roads and park in the appropriate areas. Also strict rules should be applied so that these vehicles are not in town after dark.

So, this new idea of recreation should be tried. It might work well if the village can come up with the rules and the four-wheeler owners follow them. It would be another way of bringing people to New Glarus to enjoy what the village has to offer.

Sincerely,

Kegan French,

New Glarus Township
