Ponies Defeat Black Hawk

The Monticello Ponies played against Black Hawk on April 18th, winning 9-3.

The winning pitcher for Monticello was Travis McCoy who had nine strike outs and only one walk. As a team, the Ponies had nine runs on 13 hits. Braden Gafner was four for four with three RBIs, Travis Krychowiak was three for four, Zach Price went two for four with two RBIs and a hit by pitch, while Kollin Klitzke was two four four.

On Friday, the team headed to face Potosi in a Double Header.

In game one, the Ponies lost 0-7. The Ponies also lost the second game, 18-3.

“It was a rough night with little hitting by Monticello, defense was good,” said Coach Scott Smice. “Several freshman pitched in game two and got some good varsity experience.”

Zach Price had a triple and a double and hit the ball well in the second game as well.

The Ponies played at Pecatonica on Monday and hosted Barneveld on Tuesday. On Friday, they head to Cassville for a Double Header that begins at 4:30 p.m.
