Expansion Planned for New Glarus Brewing Company's Hilltop Facility Hospitality Areas

March 30, 2017

In the next few weeks the New Glarus Brewing Company will begin an expansion of its Beer Depot and the Tasting Room at Hilltop facility, south of the Village of New Glarus. The addition will extend out into the current parking lot.

The expansion, designed by architect Katherine May, seamlessly melds with and enhances the old world look of the brewery as well as the Village of New Glarus and the surrounding area.

May commented, "The Hospitality addition will allow our visitors more space to enjoy a sampling or pint of beer and also shop in our beer depot. It continues the vernacular of our community and the New Glarus Brewing Company. It'll be a wonderful place for our visitors to explore and relax at our facility."

The expansion to the Beer Depot and Tasting Room will add over 3,000 square feet over two stories.

During construction, which is anticipated to begin in early April, the beer depot, where packaged beer is currently sold, will be closed.

New Glarus Brewing Company Founder/President Deb Carey said that she did not expect the temporary closure of the Beer Depot to be a problem. She voiced her support of local businesses, noting that there are many retail establishments in the area that carry New Glarus Brewing Company products, so customers should have no problem finding beer.

There will still be samples available in the gift shop and, in the warmer months, the beer garden.

In the recent Brewer's Association listing of the nation's top 50 breweries, New Glarus Brewing Company was ranked 25th, which is up two spots from its 2015 position. The rankings are based on sales volume, and Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors ranked first and second in the listings.

In 2016, New Glarus Brewing Company produced over 200,00 barrels of beer, which are sold only in Wisconsin.

In the craft beer category, which excludes breweries that exceed thresholds for size and independence from large brewers, New Glarus jumped up four spots to 16th.

The New Glarus Brewing Company was formed in 1993, by Daniel and Deborah Carey, who combined their considerable talents of brewing great beer and business management skills to build a state of the art award winning brewery that still honors the history and traditions of the Village of New Glarus.

In 2015, New Glarus Brewing Company became Employee Owned.

Self guided tours are available at the Hilltop facility from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. The brewery is closed on major holidays.
