Female Cardinals are as attractive, some say even more so, than the all red males. She is a bit more subtle with her tannish and subdued red plumage. There are a few red feathers, too, on her crest, which she displays less than he does.
They both eat up to 51 kinds of insects and related invertebrates, 39 kinds of seeds and 33 fruit types if they are accessible. Usually Cardinals feed low to the ground or from platform feeders.
