Reece Rufer scored 16 points in the game against Juda.

Argyle came out ready to play on February 14th against the Monticello Ponies boys basketball team, scoring first, but the Ponies went on a 10-0 run to take the lead with nine minutes left in the half. The Orioles fought back and retook the lead, but Monticello's Jon Errthum hit a jumper at the buzzer to tie the game 16-16 at the end of the first half.

The second half, the lead went back and forth until the Ponies went on a 14-0 run with five minutes left in the game. Errthum was 11-15 from the free throw line in the second, and that helped the Ponies win the game. The final score was Monticello 47, Argyle 34.

"The game was a tough battle," said Coach Mark Olson. "The size of our post players really bothered them, and our ability to hit free throws down the stretch helped us secure the win."

Pouring in 21 points to lead the Ponies was Jon Errthum, who also pulled down 14 rebounds. Reece Rufer scored 12 points and had nine rebounds and Zach Price put 8 points on the board. Braden Gafner had nine rebounds.

On Friday night, February 17th, the Ponies hosted Juda.

"Juda's size and physicality gave us some problems, and we did not do a good enough job taking care of the basketball," said Olson.

After trailing by 13 at halftime, the Ponies were unable to get back into the game in the second half and lost. The final score was Juda 58, Monticello 40.

Reece Rufer led the Ponies with 16 points. Zach Price scored 9 points and Braden Gafner had 7 points and four rebounds. Jon Errthum pulled down 11 rebounds while Trenten Ryan had six rebounds.

The Ponies finished their regular season with an overall record of 4-18, and will play a WIAA Regional game at Cambria-Friesland on February 28th, at 7:00 p.m.
