Avalanche Scores Two Big Wins

 


On January 31st, the Monroe Co-op Avalanche hockey team traveled to Beloit to face Beloit Memorial.

The home team dominated the scoreboard in the first period and by early in the second, the Avalanche were down 6-0. Tyler Johnson, assisted by Seth Lindsay and Travis Edmunds got Monroe on the board, but Beloit wouldn’t let up and ended up winning the game, 8-1.

Heath Bear had 28 saves and Daniel Guilliams had 15 saves.

The Avalanche hosted La Follette on Thursday night. They crushed the Eastside Lakers, 4-1.

Tyler Johnson, assisted by Travis Edmunds, scored the first goal in the first period. In the second period Tyler Johnson scored again, followed by a goal by Seth Lindsay, assisted by Jared Dillon. La Follette scored in the third and Jake Ritschard, assisted by Jared Cline and Travis Edmunds, followed up with another goal for the Avalanche.

Daniel Guilliams had 22 saves.

On Saturday night, the team hosted Viroqua. By the end of the first period, the score was tied 2-2. Travis Edmunds, assisted by Jake Ritschard, scored goal number one which was followed by a goal by Jared Dillon, assisted by Tyler Johnson and Cade Martin.

In the second period, Viroqua scored early on, but shortly after that Travis Edmunds, assisted by Jake Ritschard and Tyler Johnson, scored on a Power Play. Two minutes later Jake Ritschard, assisted by Tyler Johnson scored the fifth goal for the team and two minutes after that, Jared Cline, assisted by Cade Martin, scored on a Power Play. But the Avalanche weren’t done yet. Less than a minute after that goal, Tyler Johnson, assisted by Cade Martin, scored the home team’s final goal of the second period on a Power Play.

Viroqua made an attempt to catch up to the Avalanche in the third period, but the Avalanche answered with four goals of their own. Cade Martin, assisted by Colton O’Connor, scored, followed by a Short Handed score by Jake Ritschard, assisted by Tyler Johnson and Connor Nafzger. Tyler Johnson, assisted by Cade Martin, then scored on a Power Play and the last goal of the game was scored by Payton Stauffacher, assisted by Tyler Johnson. The final score of the game was Monroe 10, Viroqua 5.

Daniel Guilliams had 27 saves.

The Avalanche played Monona Grove at Hartmeyer Ice Arena on February 7th, and on February 9th they have a rematch against La Follette.
