Sugar River Places Seven Wrestlers at the Wisconsin Dells Invitational

The Sugar River wrestlers had a busy week, which started with a dual against Brodhead/Juda on January 26th. The Raiders lost, 27-46.
Jack Diederich lost by fall to Kaleb Erb in the 145 lb weight class.
Hayden Latsch lost by fall to Jeffery Williams in the 152 lb weight class.
Tyler Varney won by fall over Nick Naramore in the 160 lb weight class.
Calvin Binger lost by fall to James Harper in the 170 lb weight class.
Nina Haentsch lost by fall to Tyler Hoesly in the 182 lb weight class.
Daniel Enloe lost by fall to Trent Davis in the 285 lb weight class.
Robert Chenoweth lost to Russell Waeffler in the 113 lb weight class.
Justin Knoebl won by fall over Theo Policastro in the 126 lb weight class.
Max Gerner lost by fall to Jackson Hauri in the 132 lb weight class.
John Chenoweth won by decision over Blake Burns in the 138 lb weight class.
On January 28th the team participated in the Wisconsin Dells Invitational. The sixteen team tournament had schools in all divisions from Wisconsin and Minnesota. This is the last tournament before the team gets into their conference tournament and then state series.
"After an shaky performance against Brodhead/Juda on Thursday, the Raiders came out on fire on Saturday," said Coach Pete Swenson. "Seven of the nine competing were able to place in the top six in this tough tournament. Those who did not place in the top six were one win away. This was the best tournament by far. Many wrestlers are starting to peak at the right time."
Robert Chenoweth (113 lbs) placed sixths and scored 9 team points. In round one, Chenoweth received a bye. In round two, he lost to Waunakee's Berhett Statz by decision. Chenoweth received another bye in round three, and in round four he won by fall over Daniel Moucha, Chippewa Falls. In the fifth place match, Chenoweth fell to North Crawford/Senenca's Trea Steele.
Justin Knoebl (126 lbs) placed third and scored 17 team points. Knoebl received a bye in round one, and in round two Knoebl won by fall over Austin Smith, Chippewa Falls. Knoebl lost round four to Riverdale's Bryndl Nalepinski. In the third place match, Knoebl won by decision over Hillsboro's Dakota Wells.
Max Gerner (132 lbs) placed sixth and scored 13 team points. In round one, Gerner won by fall over Cashton's Zach Harris. Gerner lost by fall to Riverdale's Brian Mathews in round two. In round three, Gerner won by fall over Albert Flottmeyer, La Crosse Aquinas. Gerner won round four by fall over Dylan Schimmel, Chippewa Falls. In the fifth place match, Gerner lost by fall to Waunakee's Colton Grindle.
John Chenoweth (138 lbs) placed second and scored 22 team points. Chenoweth received a bye in round one and in round two won by fall over Chase Bergeron, Chippewa Falls. In round three, Chenoweth won by decision over Waunakee's Zachary Marek. In the first place match, Chenoweth lost by fall to Grand Meadown/Le Roy-Ostrander/Kingsland's Brenn Olson.
Jack Diederich (145 lbs) placed fifth and scored 17 team points. In round won, Diederich won by fall over Hunter Thicke, La Crosse Aquinas. In round two, Diederich lost by major decision to Waunakee's Ben Statz. In round three, Diederich won by fall over North Crawford/Seneca's Brent Jelinek and in round four he won by fall over Riverdale's Tyler Hach. In the fifth place match, Diederich won by fall over Watertown's Lucas Bridges.
Hayden Latsch (152 lbs) placed sixth and scored 10 team points. In round one Latsch lost by decision to Andrew Topolski, La Crosse Aquinas. Latsch won by decision over Grand Meadown/Le Roy-Ostrander/ Kingsland's Cameron Sneed, and in round three he won by fall over Cashton's Devin Olson. In round four, Latsch won by fall over Riverdale's Colt Pechan. In the fifth place match, Andrew Topolski, La Crosse Aquinas, won by decision over Latsch.
Tyler Varney (160 lbs) scored 7 team points. In round one, Varney won by fall over Brillion's Cole Kilgas. Varney lost by fall to Riley Weyandt, Chippewa Falls, in round two and in round three Varney won by fall over Kaleb Dobson, Black River Falls. Varney lost by fall in round four to Sebastian Kontaxis, Wisconsin Dells.
Calvin Binger (170 lbs) scored 3 team points. Binger received a bye in round one and lost by fall to Waunakee's Preston Webster in round two. In round three Binger won by fall over Brookfield Central's Tommy Maurice. Binger lost round four by fall to Sean Johnson, Black River Falls.
Daniel Enloe (285 lbs) placed third and scored 19 team points. Enloe received a bye for round one and in round two Enloe won by fall over Robert Rave, Black River Falls. In round three, Enloe fell to Cashton's Brandon Klimek. Enloe won the third place match over Watertown's Alex Nachtigall.
"I am extremely proud how the team responded after the way we wrestled against Brodhead," said Swenson. "Statistically, we ended the day with seventeen pins, the most we had all season, and everyone left with at least two wins. This gives us great momentum going into our final dual on Tuesday versus Verona and conference tournament in Lodi."
The conference match in Lodi is on February 4th, and begins at 7:00 p.m.
