The Friends of the New Glarus Library held their 5th Annual Trivia Night on Saturday, January 21st, at the New Glarus Hotel.

Ten teams gathered for the 5th Annual Trivia Night of the Friends of the New Glarus Library Saturday night, January 21st, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., to raise some money and to have fun. The New Glarus Hotel generously donated their dining room for the event. Ten teams competed for three coveted hand-made trophies by Denise Anton Wright, the former head librarian and originator of the Trivia Night.

Team P.O.T. (Puempel's Olde Tavern) were on hand to defend their championship from last year. They faced other teams, including the always formidable Dewey Decimators formed by the Library staff, the Village Idiots and Notorious NGLB from the Library Board. The Sassy Brains were hopelessly outnumbered with only four members on their team when one team had the maximum of eight players and several had seven. Clearly they were clueless to this fact since they led through the first 3 of 6 rounds and ended up with the 3rd place trophy.

This was not your grandfather's Jeopardy! The first round consisted of tasting and identifying five different cheeses. The sixth round was a set of slides of slices of candy bars. In between were sets of challenging facts and quotes for teams to identify.

As each round was being scored, New Glarus' voluptuous Swiss lasses, the Heidi Men, led head to head contest questioning from selected suckers, er, volunteers for instant prizes. After totaling the scores, the Dewey Decimators knocked Team P.O.T. into second place to take the first place trophy. You can see all three teams and their trophies at https://www.facebook.com/FriendsOfTheNewGlarusLibrary/.

The Friends of the New Glarus Library will use the money raised to support literacy in New Glarus, not just at the Library but other worthwhile projects in the community.
