Ponies Best Belmont
In a non-conference game against the Belmont Braves on December 13th, the Monticello Ponies emerged the victor, winning 49-35. This is Monticello’s first win of the season.
Belmont pulled into the lead early in the first four minutes of the game, but the Ponies rallied with a 15-5 run to end the first half and were leading at halftime, 19-11.
Early on in the second half Monticello had a 17-point lead, but the Braves came back to get within 5 points. The Ponies stepped up and went on a 12-3 run to close out the game.
Jon Errthum led the Ponies in scoring, he poured in 18 points and had 13 rebounds. Reece Rufer scored 11 points and had 15 rebounds. Travis McCoy put 8 points on the board.
On Thursday, December 15th, the Ponies were the guests of the Pecatonica Vikings.
The Ponies had a 22-14 lead during the first half but the Vikings went on a 20-0 run and were up by 12 at the end of the first.
During the second half, the Ponies played hard and tried to decrease the Vikings’ lead, but came up short. Pecatonica won the game, 82-41.
Zach Price led the Ponies with 12 points and three rebounds. Putting 9 points on the board was Jon Errthum; he also had seven rebounds. Reece Rufer scored 8 points and had three rebounds.
The Ponies traveled to Barneveld on December 20th and on Thursday, December 29th, they will be participating in a tournament to be held in Cambridge.
