Monticello Boys Lose to New Glarus

 


The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team traveled to Highland on November 22nd to take on the Cardinals. The Ponies lost, 44-56.

Early in the first half, the Ponies tied the game at 7-7, but Highland went on a 13-0 run to go up by 13. The score at the half was Highland 34, Monticello 17.

With 11:02 to play in the second half, the Ponies cut the deficit to 9 points, but the Cardinals came back with a 15-2 run and put the win out of reach, even though the Ponies outscored the Cardinals.

Jon Errthum led the Ponies in scoring with 14 points and had 11 rebounds. Reece Rufer put 13 points on the board and had 15 rebounds. Zach Price scored 12 points.

Next up for the Ponies was a trip to New Glarus on November 26th to take on the Knights. Monticello lost, 31-59.

The Knights took the lead in the first six minutes, leading to a 26-13 score at the half.

In the second half, the Ponies fought to catch back up, but despite their best efforts, could not get the win.

Zach Price poured in 19 points for the Ponies. Reece Rufer scored 8 points and had eight rebounds. Jon Errthum had four rebounds.

The Knights’ leading scorer was Cullen Brooks, with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Zach Feller put 9 points on the board. Mike Nelson and Jacob Tetner scored 7 points apiece and Christian Arnett had four rebounds.

The Ponies traveled to Belleville on November 29th and will host Albany at 7:30 p.m., on December 6th.
