MARY ANNE CASE
Mary Anne (Mockler) Case, 83, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville. Mary Anne was born on May 22, 1933, at the farmhouse of her parents, Edward and Pearl (Feeney) Mockler near Kingsley, IA.
She graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class at Remsen, attended college at Briar Cliff College and graduated from Mount Mary in Milwaukee. She pursued a career in Occupational Therapy, eventually retiring from the Cherokee Mental Health Institute.
Despite physical challenges – congenital hearing impairment, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a thirty-year battle with Parkinson's Disease - Mary Anne balanced her professional career with her roles as wife and mother. She was decidedly Irish Catholic, not least in her obdurate loyalty to a large, extended family. The milestones that marked her life were the births, deaths, marriages, anniversaries, graduations and christenings of five generations.
Suffering from the physical and cognitive symptoms of Parkinson's, Mary Anne lost the anchor of her life, her husband, Wayne, in July 2016. She deteriorated rapidly thereafter.
Mary Anne is survived by her children, Martin (Minneapolis), wife, Mona Smith, Nathaniel and Riley; Todd (Iowa City), wife, Alesa, Teague and Eamon; Monica (New Glarus), and Owen; Tamra (Jeffersonville, VT), husband, Steve Higgins, Tara and Lucy; Clark (Dixon, NM), partner, Nicole DeMaret, Nicholas and Isabel; and Jesse (Iowa City), wife, Shelly Kerr, Keenan and Nolan. She is also survived by brother, Paul Mockler; and by many beloved nephews and nieces.
Services for Mary Anne will be held at 10:30 a.m., at St. Michael's Church in Kingsley, IA, on Monday, November 28, 2016. Family will greet attendees at 9:30 a.m.
