Leuzinger Families of Netstal Might Have Saracene Ancestors

It is a bold hypothesis, but one that is substantiated by genetic evidence: Antero Leitzinger from Helsinki, historic researcher and a Leuzinger descendant himself, finds Saracene pirates among his family‘s forefathers. Leitzinger has traced their origins from medieval Weesen near Netstal to the Mediterranean.

Hans Lütziger is the oldest historically known ancestor of the Leuzinger families from the Glarus Valley, whose name is recorded in a document from 1531. Nowadays, Hans Lütziger’s descendants hold biannual family meetings. Since 1997, more than 180 relatives
