Swim Team Prepared for Conference Meet
The Monroe/New Glarus swim team ended their regular conference dual season on October 18th against Stoughton. Stoughton won the meet, 92-78.
“The score on the board was not what the girls worked for or hoped for, but just like they have all season long, they swam with pride and tenacity,” commented Coach Linda Moser. “I am so proud of their courage to compete in such a tough conference, knowing 12 of the 19 are new to high school swimming this year. It takes a lot of inner strength to work hard in practice day after day knowing the score won’t show that.”
The 200-Yard Medley Relay team, consisting of Nina Schiro, Maddie Hammer, Emily Meritt and Skylar Lassen, won the event with a time of 2:05.18.
Skylar Lassen won the 200-Yard Free event, with a time of 2:10.95. Teammates Cammi Ganshert (2:22.95) and Linnea Tabaka (2:38.32) also swam in this event.
Taking second place in the 200-Yard IM was Nina Schiro, with a time of 2:27.87. Hannah Swenson (2:51.66) and Ally Einbeck (3:01.87) also competed.
Emily Meritt (28.69) and Madison Katzenberger (29.16) took third and fourth place, respectively, in the 50-Yard Free event. Samantha Ellefson (29.69) also swam in the race.
In the 100-Yard Fly, Emily Meritt placed second with a time of 1:12.09. Also swimming in this race was Hannah Swenson (1:23.24).
Maddie Hammer won the 100-Yard Free with a time of 56.78. Coming in third in the event was Cammi Ganshert, with a time of 1:03.88. Brynn Ritschard (1:06.77) also competed.
Nina Schiro won the 500-Yard Free event with a time of 5:49.19. Linnea Tabaka (6:53.89) and Dee Delforge (7:34.11) also swam in this event.
The 200-Yard Free Relay team of Madison Katzenberger, Samantha Ellefson, Brynn Ritschard and Cammi Ganshert finished in second place with a time of 1:57.89. The team of Hannah Swenson, Ally Einbeck, Kylie Houston and Kayleigh Nesbitt finished fifth, with a time of 2:11.66.
In the 100-Yard Backstroke event, Skylar Lassen placed second with a time of 1:06.04. The fourth place finisher was Kayleigh Nesbitt with a time of 1:21.28. Dee Delforge (1:28.02) also swam in this event.
Maddie Hammer won the 100-Yard Breaststroke event with a time of 1:18.14. Teammate Brynn Ritschard was right behind her, finishing in second place with a time of 1:25.57. Finishing fifth was Ally Einbeck with a time of 1:36.89.
The 400-Yard Free Relay team of Nina Schiro, Cammi Ganshert, Skylar Lassen and Maddie Hammer took another second of their PR, winning the event with a time of 3:58.55. Placing fourth in the event was the team of Emily Meritt, Kayleigh Nesbitt, Linnea Tabaka and Madison Katzenberger, with a time of 4:40.86.
M/NG swam to six new PRs at the Hillmen Invitational in Platteville on Saturday, October 22nd. “Not as many as they had set a goal for,” remarked Coach Moser, “but at this point in the season they are very tired physically and mentally.”
The team of Skylar Lassen, Maddie Hammer, Madison Katzenberger and Nina Schiro placed fifth in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:05.25.
Maddie Hammer set a PR in the 200-Yard Freestyle, placing second with a time of 2:04.98. Cammi Ganshert (2:25.13), Dee Delforge (2:46.27) and Kylie Houston (with a PR time of 2:46.43) also competed in the event.
Competing in the 100-Yard IM were Hannah Swenson (1:18.81) and Kayleigh Nesbitt (1:21.66).
Emily Meritt placed ninth in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 28.82. Teammates Madison Katzenberger (29.59), Samantha Ellefson (30.26), and Anna Latimer (34.66) also swam in this event.
Placing tenth in the 100-Yard Butterfly was Emily Meritt with a time of 1:12.44. Hannah Swenson (1:22.68) also swam in this event.
Maddie Hammer swam to a first place finish, with a new PR time, in the 100-Yard Freestyle event, with a time of 56.45. Cammi Ganshert (1:03.71) and Kylie Houston (1:17.26) also competed.
Nina Schiro took second place in the 500-Yard Freestyle, with a time of 5:47.85. Linnea Tabaka (6:56.14) also swam in this event.
In the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Emily Meritt, Madison Katzenberger, Cammi Ganshert and Skyler Lassen swam to a sixth place finish with a time of 1:54.23. In the same event, the team of Samantha Ellefson, Dee Delforge, Kayleigh Nesbitt and Hannah Swenson placed tenth with a time of 2:03.61.
Nina Schiro won the 100-Yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:02.85 – a new PR for her. Skylar Lassen placed third in the event with a time of 1:06.67. Also swimming in this event for Monroe/New Glarus were Kayleigh Nesbitt (1:18.91), Linnea Tabaka (1:19.26), Dee Delforge (1:28.64) and Anna Latimer (1:29.12 – PR time).
Capturing third place in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay was the team of Nina Schiro, Cammi Ganshert, Skylar Lassen and Maddie Hammer, with a time of 4:00.61. Swimming in the same event was the team of Samantha Ellefson, Dee Delforge, Madison Katzenberger and Emily Meritt, finishing with a time of 4:28.48.
Monroe/New Glarus placed fifth in the invitational against seven other teams.
Coach Moser said, “We will be focusing this week on maintaining a positive, competitive attitude in and out of the water, as well as training hard and improving our nutrition for what will be the two toughest weeks of the season as the girls approach that ending goal they had all set at the beginning of the season.”
The team swims at the Badger South Conference meet at Fort Atkinson on Friday, October 28th. The meet starts at 5:00 p.m. Moser is “excited to see what the girls will do at conference!”
