Three cross country races remain in our short fall season:  Capitol Conference, Fennimore Sectional and the State Meet at Wisconsin Rapids.  Saturday morning the New Glarus-Monticello cross country bus arrives early enough to find only one other team in the Lodi High School parking lot.  For awhile we explore the race course alone.  The sky remains overcast and a wind puts a chill in us as we walk and jog most of the three miles.  This course is one of contrasts.  The end of the first mile includes a steep 200-meter hill that leaves runners wobbly-legged, wide-eyed and desperate for a...
