Swim Team Loses to Monona Grove
Swimmers Place First in 8 out of 11 events
The Monroe/New Glarus swim team hosted Monona Grove at the Green County YMCA on September 27th. The final Varsity score was Monona Grove 96, Monroe/New Glarus 74.
“Our goal tonight was to swim hard and stay close with Monona Grove and we accomplished that,” said Coach Linda Moser. “With it being Senior Night, that added more excitement to the evening. We finished 1st in 8 out of 11 events. The difference was Monona was able to secure more of the 2nd and 3rd spots then we were. We are a bigger team this year, but with a larger number of new swimmers than returning swimmers, this makes a difference in close meets in our conference.”
Senior Skylar Lassen swam to two first place finishes. In the 200-Meter Free, she finished with a time of 2:25.46, and in the 100-Meter Backstroke she finished with a time of 1:13.40.
In the 50-Meter Free event, junior Maddie Hammer placed first with a time of 29.22. Hammer also placed first in the 100-Meter Free, with a time of 1:04.87.
Nina Schiro, a sophomore, also had two first place finishes in both of her events. In the 200-Meter IM she finished in 2:41.35, and in the 400-Meter Free she finished with a time of 5:03.47.
In the 100-Meter Butterfly, sophomore Emily Meritt captured first place with a time of 1:19.74.
The 400-Meter Free Relay team, consisting of Skylar Lassen, Emily Meritt, Nina Schiro and Maddie Hammer, placed first in their event, with a time of 4:27.36.
The Monroe/New Glarus team hosts Oregon on Tuesday, October 4th, for their last home swim meet at the Green County YMCA, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
