A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians
October 8 and 9 at the Tell Grounds in New Glarus
Looking for an incredible, fun-filled, fall experience in Southern Wisconsin? Come to A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians - A Renaissance Faire Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9, from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., rain or shine, at the beautiful, wooded Wilhelm Tell Grounds in New Glarus, WI. Huzzah!
A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians promises to astound both young and old! Come celebrate the arts and history of the Renaissance at the 9th annual Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians, where storytellers abound, giant fish and swordsmen walk the streets, strange sisters sing with washtubs, and everywhere you look there is magic. Spy primitive sheep, see fire-breathing gypsies, experience live action role play, have your fortune told by a witch, learn medieval fighting, be inspired by knights, but beware of the orcs in the woods! Be charmed by lords and ladies, learn blacksmithing, discuss the art of sword making, try on armor, learn Renaissance country dancing, join in the merriment — all for a fair price of $8.00 for 13 and older, $5.00 for youth 4-12 and free for ages 3 and under. Weekend passes are $12.00 and $8.00.
Want to experience more fun, attend in costume. Spend a little extra jingle and ride a horse, try your hand at archery, or purchase some beautiful wares. The faire is home to over 50 creative artisans and merchants. Shop all day and find unique gifts—furs, leather ware, pottery, weaponry, swords, collectibles, masks, chain maille, Renaissance garb, fantasy, and Steampunk attire, herbs, dragons, toys, and pirate treasure are amongst the stunning array of goods. Let the smells of some outstanding foods tempt you: Dragonz Lair Vittlez, Heavenly Smoked Roasters, Calli’s Pub, Sadie’s Corn on the Cobb, Gourmet Kettle Korn, and don’t forget a treat from Wonderland Sweets. Get a serving of Renaissance personality with a crunchy Thunder Pickle—still only $1.00. Get a Rogues and Ruffians mug topped with Monroe’s very own Blumer’s Rootbeer or New Glarus Beer at the Pickled Gizzard Pub. Bos Meadery joins the merriment this year.
While the faire is for everyone, it wouldn’t be Rogues and Ruffians if we didn’t have the kids at the core of the faire. Kids can enjoy building a life sized castle with artist Stuart Hellwig, a tea party with the fairies in the Fairy Kingdom at 2:00 p.m., where they can meet the fairy queen, a belly dance class at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, learn history from great historians, go on the Kids Quest all weekend, be in a stage show, see a knight parade at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, play games in the Kids Kingdom, and so, so much more. Kids, come in costume and visit the Monk at Mystic Moraine Minerals for a magic stone. Kids are kings at Rogues and Ruffians!
All proceeds from A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians - A Renaissance Faire benefit the youth programming of the Monroe, WI, based non-profit, Shakespeare on the Edge, Inc., where kids find their greatest potential through the art of Shakespeare and by respecting each other.
