Swim Team Loses to Milton
On Tuesday, September 13, the Monroe/New Glarus High School Swim Team hosted Milton at the Green County YMCA. The Varsity scored 61.5 points to Milton’s 108.5 and the JV score was Monroe/New Glarus-41, Milton-88.
The team of Skylar Lassen, Maddie Hammer, Grace Keith and Nina Schiro started out strong in their 200-Meter Medley Relay event, swimming to a PR with a time of 2:13.74, which was a first place finish.
Senior Skylar Lassen took first in both of her individual events. In the 200-Meter Free event she finished with a time of 2:20.25, and in the 100-Meter Backstroke she finished with a time of 1:12.83 – both new personal records.
Nina Schiro, a sophomore, also had a double PR night. In the 200-Meter IM she placed third with a time of 2:44.04, and tied for second in the 400-Meter Free with a time of 5:04.55.
Junior Grace Keith swam to a new PR and second place in the 100-Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:16.97.
Brynn Ritschard, a junior, added another PR for the team by finishing the 50-Meter Freestyle in 31.79.
In the 100-Meter Backstroke, Kayleigh Nesbitt finished with a PR time of 1:29.72.
In the 200-Meter Free Relay the team of Maddie Hammer, Brynn Ritschard, Madison Katzenberger and Emily Meritt placed second, with a time of 2:05.33.
The team consisting of Skylar Lassen, Cammi Ganshert, Emily Merrit and Nina Schiro swam in the 400-Meter Free Relay, placing second with a time of 4:35.51.
“The girls were focused and ready for a tough competitor and even though the score didn’t show a win, they still won for they all met the team goal of not giving up in the water,” said Coach Linda Moser. “To have the confidence to race with the strongest competitors, not give in to them - in my eyes that is a win!”
