Howard M. Severson, age 93 of New Glarus, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born on January 20, 1923, to his parents, Casper and Tena (Evenstad) Severson.

Howard graduated from Blanchardville High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Madison Business College. On October 24, 1942, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Crook at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville. Kathryn predeceased Howard on January 22, 2003, after sixty years of marriage. Howard then married Dorene L. Disch in 2006. Initially Howard farmed and then worked for the University of Wisconsin on the Wisconsin Electric Research Farm. He then began working in the title industry at Preferred Title for Perry Armstrong and then owned Capital Land Title, Inc. Howard then retired at the age of 72 from Stewart Title. He was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus and was a long time member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison, serving as a Sunday school teacher, parking lot director, and usher. Howard was also a member of the New Glarus Masonic Lodge #310, Sons of Norway, and the Madison Elks Club. He also was a 45-year member of his stock club and a 50-year member of his card club. Howard loved to read, watch sports, listen to music, and dance to polkas and waltzes at the New Glarus Hotel. Though as of late he would say, "I Lost My Hop." Howard also enjoyed trout fishing and any day he could fish was a good one. Howard was a strong person who took care of his family, he will be greatly missed.

Disch-Severson of New Glarus, WI; two daughters, Mary (Stan) Marks of Eau Claire, WI, and her family, Todd (Jennifer) Marks, and children, Madilyn and Graham, of Verona, WI; Janine (Doug) Olson of Madison, WI, and her family, Emily (Chris) Sheffelman, and children, Ella, Lily, and Leo, of Madison, WI, and Kathryn (Brett) Schuster and son, Owen, of DeForest, WI. He is further survived by a brother, Carlton "Sam" Severson of Blanchardville, WI; Dorene's children, Sharon (Bill Tomkins) Darrow of Oregon, WI, and her daughters, Marcy (Derek) Dahlk, daughters, Lucy and Ruby, of Mount Horeb, WI, Mindy (Chris) Wetzel and daughter, Cora, of Mount Horeb, WI, and Marta M. Darrow of Fitchburg, WI, Larry (Laura) Moldenhauer of New Glarus, WI, and his daughter, Stephanie (Troy) Loether, of West Bend, WI, and children, Tianna, Chloe, Isaac, and Ephraim, and step-children, Chris Ripp of Windsor, WI, David Ripp, of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathryn; a granddaughter, Jennifer K. Marks; and a brother, Arthur Severson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Avenue, New Glarus, WI, with the Rev. Kim Moeller officiating, with entombment at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison.
