Frank Grateful For Quick Response

Dear Editor,

When I was sitting on my front porch last Wednesday evening, a wasp flew up to my face and bit my chin, then it bit my finger. When I got up to get some ice for it, I felt dizzy and my vision was full of black clouds. My husband and daughter-in-law were nearby so they helped me into the house. My husband called 911, then opened the door to wave down the help. Well, our police were already there. Less than two minutes. He fitted me with an oxygen mask. I felt better because of two things: the oxygen and a police officer nearby.

The emergency services and ambulance were right behind him. It was “training night” they told me, so I had a lot of wonderful and well-trained people in my house taking care of me. Of course I had to go to the ER in Monroe. My care there was equally good because by then I had a bright red rash and hives all over my body.

We are so fortunate in our little town to have such terrific people available to us just by dialing the phone. It is something I will never forget. My vision cleared in the ambulance and I could see those kind faces and the warm hands and voices that were taking care of me. I felt safe and secure instead of terrified.
