Relay for Life of Green County Plans a Busy August
The Relay For Life of Green County had a successful event on June 18th at Brodhead High School. Currently, over $29,000 has been raised for the event. Fourteen teams, 93 participants, sponsors, survivors and volunteers raised money through donations, sponsorships, silent auction, dessert auction, Miss Relay and a variety of activities. Turner Hall hosted a post event fundraiser on June 26th with the support of the Greg Anderson Band that raised over $400. The Relay also worked cooperatively with the Brodhead Police Association’s Badger Honor Flight Dinner as both events were the same day at Brodhead High School. The Relay events leadership and teams continue to raise funds to help find a cure for cancer and provide education, support and programs for cancer survivors and their families.
Relay For Life of Green County will be present during Covered Bridges Days in Brodhead. On Saturday, August 13, Jim Huffman and Team Deb’s Donkeys will host the antique tractor drive about 4:00 p.m. Line-up is at the south end of town in the tractor pull area, just east of the car dealer and McDonald’s. In the past, the public can ride along in big wagons for the drive also. The drive usually takes about 1- 1 1/2 hours. Donations for the Relay For Life are encouraged from the participants and viewers. During Covered Bridges Days, a Tastefully Simple booth, operated by Relay For Life event chairman Jo Ann Steuri on Saturday, also benefits the Relay For Life.
On Monday, August 15, the group will host a Culver’s Night at the New Glarus Culver’s restaurant from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Ten percent of all drive through, restaurant sales, and product sales will go to the Relay for Life. At 7:30 p.m., the Relay group will meet to decide their 2017 event date and location - all are encouraged to attend.
All Relay volunteers, sponsors and supporters are welcomed to attend the 2017 Relay For Life Global Celebration at Dodger Bowl in Dodgeville on Friday, August 19, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. A major event is being held at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN, and the Dodgeville event will offer a live broadcast of that event, along with time to socialize. Cosmic bowling, cash bar, and ordering from the menu are options for the night.
Looking ahead to fall, mark your calendar for “Shop for a Cure,” the Relay For Life’s fundraiser, on Saturday, November 26, from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., at the Monroe Middle School. All proceeds benefit the Relay and vendors, shoppers, and others are encouraged to attend.
