Volksfest 2016 Includes Special Guests from Switzerland
On Sunday, August 7th, the Männerchor New Glarus will be hosting the annual Volksfest Celebration. Volksfest celebrates Swiss Independence and the birth of the Swiss nation achieved in 1291. The events of that time became the Wilhelm Tell story and are the basis for our celebration today. Volksfest continues to honor Swiss heritage through music, food and folklore.
Special guests include the Jodelchörli Alpsteinblick (Abtwil, Switzerland), Alphorn Man Sprint Triathlon participants, Fahnenschwingen Youth Group, Monroe Cheese Days Royalty and Beth Zurbuchen from the Swiss Center of North America. Featured performers include the Monroe Swiss Singers, Jodlerklub New Glarus, New Glarus Kinderchor, Männerchor New Glarus and many more.
Volksfest is held annually at the Tell Shooting Park. Grounds open at Noon, with pre-program music by David and Mike Austin at 1:00 p.m. The program of Swiss and ethnic music begins at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 for general admission and children 12 and under are free. Food and refreshments will be available
