Sarah Blumer, Claire Klossner, Simon Blohowiak and Peter Gustafson, members of the Monticello FCCLA chapter, attended the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in San Diego.
Four members of the Monticello FCCLA chapters joined more than 8,000 FCCLA student leaders, members, and advisers at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA, July 3-7, to participate in the annual National Leadership Conference (NLC). Participating in the conference were Sarah Blumer, Peter Gustafson, Simon Blohowiak and Claire Klossner, Wisconsin FCCLA state officer. They were accompanied by Linda Marty, Chapter Adviser.
The National Leadership Conference provides opportunities for students and advisers to come together for fun and to listen to inspiring speakers, as well as to expand leadership skills, sharpen talents, and explore career pathways. In addition to advanced training opportunities, attendees had the opportunity to learn from key partners by participating in hands on activities and workshops. The theme of this year's conference was "Empowered," which inspired attendees to make the right choices and commit themselves to making a positive impact within their families, schools, FCCLA, and communities.
During the conference, Sarah, Peter and Simon competed at the national level of STAR Events. There are 30 STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events, which support foundational, leadership, and workplace skills in areas such as advocacy, culinary arts, and entrepreneurship. Members compete at the District, State and National level. This year, over 4,500 STAR Event participants competed in San Diego. Sarah Blumer competed in the event "Career Investigation" and received a gold rating. The team of Simon Blohowiak and Peter Gustafson received a gold in Entrepreneurship.
