Elaine Meier vividly remembers being chosen as Belleville's first Dairy Queen just like it was yesterday, and she has the newspaper clippings, photos, Samsonite suitcase and the handmade strawflower crown to prove it.

"I am so proud and honored that my dad put my name in along with the other nine girls to serve as Belleville's first Dairy Queen," said Meier. "People could vote for us by buying dairy products from the local grocery stores."
