New Glarus Softball Wins Over Waterloo

 


The New Glarus softball team played Waterloo on Monday, May 23, and won the game, 16-9.

At the end of the first inning, the two teams were tied 1-1, but New Glarus picked up the pace and scored at least two runs in every single inning of the game, with the exception of the first and fifth. There were five lead changes during the contest. The Knights had 23 hits, including six extra base hits.

Ashley Judd and Riley Parker split pitching duties, both striking out two players.

Kelly Fredrickson went 4-5, with two RBIs and scoring four runs. Jessica Van Dusen and Noelle Austin both went 2-4 at bat and both scored two runs. Van Dusen had one RBI, while Austin had two RBIs. Maya Kramer went 1-3 at bat, with one RBI and scoring three runs. Other Knights players scoring runs were Ashley Judd with two, Devon Boll with two and Olivia Woodmansee scored one run.

On Tuesday, New Glarus once again headed to Waterloo for another high scoring affair. Unfortunately, the Knights were on the losing end this time as they lost, 14-12.

Waterloo took a one run lead in the bottom of the first, but New Glarus scored two runs of their own in the top of the second. Waterloo tied it up in their half of the second. The Knights scored five runs in the second, and Waterloo came back with seven of their own, making the score 9-7 in their favor. New Glarus then tied it up at the top of the sixth, but Waterloo, not ready to give up, scored two runs to win the game.

Jessica Van Dusen and Riley Parker pitched for the Knights. Parker struck out two, while Van Dusen struck out one.

Kelly Fredrickson went 3-4, scoring one run and had five RBIs. Grace Moen went 3-5, scoring one run. Maya Kramer was 2-5, scoring one run with one RBI. Lydia Sprecher scored one run, Ashley Judd and Jessica Van Dusen scored three runs apiece and Noelle Austin crossed home plate twice for the Knights.

The Knights ended their regular season play with a conference record of 4-12, and an overall record of 5-18.
