2016-2017 New Glarus Dairy Queen Candidate Emily Streiff

Emily Streiff is a candidate to become the 2016-2017 New Glarus Dairy Queen.

Hello, my name is Emily Streiff and I am a candidate for the 2016-2017 New Glarus Dairy Queen. Together, with my parents, Matt and Becki Streiff, and my brothers, Nathan and Clayton, we live on a fifth-generation farm just north of New Glarus. Recently, my family and I joined my grandparents and many of our family members to attend an awards ceremony honoring my family farm as a Century Farm. The Streiff family has been a part of the agricultural community in Green County since my great-great-great grandfather returned to New Glarus from the Civil War to purchase a farm west of New Glarus.

In September I will be a sophomore at New Glarus High School. During my freshman year, I was on the Highest Honor Roll each trimester. While academics are my primary focus in high school, my extra-curricular activities are very important to me too. Throughout the school year I participate in Math Team, Science Club, Student Council, Battle of the Books, Cross Country, Basketball, Soccer and FFA, where I was recently elected to be the chapter Treasurer. In the summer months I am busy with Volksfest and the Wilhelm Tell Play, along with attending the festivals.

As I get older, I realize how important it is to be proud of my heritage and our community here in New Glarus. When I was a young girl I saw the New Glarus Dairy Queen and wanted the opportunity to help promote my community. Having this opportunity is exciting and I look forward to being able to represent my community and the industry that has served my family for generations.
