Youth Wrestlers Go to State

Matt Leonard

Trei Udelhoven placed 4th this past Saturday at Youth Folkstyle State wrestling in Madison.

Five Sugar River youth wrestlers took to the mats on Friday and Saturday in Madison for State Folkstyle competition.

Joe Quaglia wrestled Friday in the 2003-2004 76# weight class.  He wrestled two tough matches but unfortunately got beat in both and was eliminated to go on.  This was Joe's second trip to State in three years!

On Saturday morning Zecheriah Bair 48#, Blake Endres 54#, Trei Udelhoven 63#, and Garrett Pauli 120# all wrestled.  Zech and Garrett each had two matches and were unfortunately eliminated.  Blake wrestled two matches, but after his 3rd match getting beat was eliminated.  Great experience for such young wrestlers at State level competition!

Trei Udelhoven won BOTH his first two matches heading into the semi-finals.  He got beat there 9-2 to the eventual State Champion.  He then wrestled back and won his next match to go for 3rd place.  Unfortunately, things didn't go as Trei wanted, and he took 4th place, losing 5-1.  The coaches were so proud of Trei as he wrestled five total matches starting at 8:30 a.m., and finishing finally at 5:30 p.m.!  Tough, long day of wrestling at the STATE level. Congratulations to Trei on a fine finish to the season!!

Way to go to all five Youth Raider wrestlers!
