Monticello Village Board Candidate Stephen Scanlan
Age: 59
Occupation: Retired person.
Have you been on the Village Board or held any other public office before? If so please describe: Municipal Court Judge in Monticello, 1985-1990; Monticello School Board 2006-2009; Library Board; Public Works and Planning Committees, Village of Monticello, 2014 until present.
Why are you running for Village Board? To follow through on work that has been started in the two committees on which I serve.
If elected, do you have any specific goals for your term in office? To try to balance necessary framework changes with regards to cost and impact on the community.
What precisely do you believe is the biggest challenge for the Village Board? Infrastructure updates. Water, sewer, roads and internet service are on the horizon. A lot of discussion has centered around a community center. Recycling.
What other issues would you like to see addressed by the Village Board? If elected, how would you handle these issues? See #4. I think that there is enough on that plate for a term.
Do you have any additional comments? The state's relationship with its communities is changing. With less support, and on some issues, with us having less of a say. We are in a typical change cycle for a community, and I would hope to have the decisions that are going to made done in an open, honest and respectful environment.
