Belleville School Board Candidate Brad Peterson
Age: 35
Occupation: Marketing Director
Do you have children in Belleville School? Three
Have you been on the school board or held any other public office before? If so please describe: Yes, I was appointed to the school board in November 2015.
Why are you running for School Board? Belleville has always had a strong commitment to the school district, which makes being invested so much more intriguing. In the many meetings that I have attended, my mind has always been on joining the Board to lend help in any way possible.
If elected, do you have any specific goals for your term in office? Strengthening the District's connection to the community with enhanced communication, transparency, and evolving relationships with local businesses.
What precisely do you believe is the biggest challenge for the School Board? Facility improvements. With challenging budget constraints, physical plant improvements are huge undertakings. Our school buildings are clean, organized and suitable. However, there are major issues, most notably the Intermediate School heating system, that need replacement. Developing the proper plan is necessary to alleviate those issues will take plenty of time, effort, and innovation.
What other issues would you like to see addressed by the School Board? If elected, how would you handle these issues? Continuing to stay in the forefront of curriculum while not being afraid to adapt quickly. The District has a very good administrative staff with a robust curriculum plan in place but changes are constant. We must stay on top of the newest developments, making the proper adjustments to give Belleville students the best possible educational opportunities.
Do you have any additional comments? I'm very proud to have my children attend the School District of Belleville. Students have a plethora of class options, extracurriculars, and volunteer opportunities in a very supportive community.
