Lady Wildcats Lose to Orfordville Parkview

Belleville played in a WIAA regional game against Orfordville Parkview at home on February 23rd.

“The game started out with a lot of energy and determination. I could tell that both teams were wanting to get this victory early on. The score in the first half was never more than four points apart until the last two minutes of the half. We struggled to keep (Katie) Harnack in front of us all night,” said Coach Kerry Steinagel.

Belleville headed for the locker room at half-time trailing Parkview, 25-31.

“In the second half both teams traded baskets for the first two possessions each. I knew we still had a run in us as this team has fought hard all year to be competitive. Well we went down by 11 points as we hit a FT to cut the score to 30 – 40,” said Steinagel. “On Parkview’s next possession, Tara Hanna was able to get a steal. That possession Tara also hit a three. The next possession, we were able to stop Parkview and then Parkview fouled us on the offensive end. Grace Schulting sank both of these FTs. The last minute of the game we finally were able to tie the game up twice. The game came down to the last possession down by two. We set up a play and got a great look but it didn’t fall. The look was exactly what we wanted.”

Belleville outscored Parkview in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to win. The final score of the game was Belleville 49, Parkview 51.

Parkview’s Katie Harnack poured in 30 points for her team, while Jackie Hudson finished with 8 points and McKenzie Saglie scored 7 points.

Reflecting on their season, Steinagel said, “The one thing I will say about this team this season is they competed in more games this season. I don’t know how many games where it came down to the last couple of possessions.” Belleville ended the season with a record of 1-9 in the Capitol South, and an overall record of 7-16.
