Lady Knights Win Over Belleville

The Lady Wildcats and Lady Knights faced off on February 11th, in New Glarus.

Belleville’s Coach Kerry Steinagel said, “The game started out back and forth, with put backs by both Tara Hanna and Grace Schulting early in the first half. These two put backs really kept our energy up in the first half. We shot the ball well as Tara had a 3-pointer go down from the wing, and then a few possessions later Tara had great pass from Krista Diaz to bring the score within one point.”

The home team was leading at half-time, by a score of 26 to 18.

New Glarus Coach Kim Burton commented, “New Glarus did a great job of getting the ball inside to their post player and the post players were finishing strong.”

“In the second half we could not get our shots to drop,” said Steinagel. “We went on about a 5 minute drought of not scoring, which is tough to overcome against any team. The girls never gave up, but New Glarus’s size in the post just could not be matched.  In the end we just didn’t shoot the ball well enough tonight to win the game.”

The final score was New Glarus 62, Belleville 37.

McKinley Righter led New Glarus with 13 points. Julia Barnaby and Tamara Elzen both contributed 12 points to the win, Willow Lee scored 9 points and Vanessa Narveson scored 8 points.

Belleville’s Tara Hanna led her team with 15 points, 13 rebounds and four steals. Grace Schulting put up 14 points and had nine rebounds and two steals. Krista Diaz scored 4 points and had three rebounds and three assists.

New Glarus is 7-2 in the Capitol South. On Monday, February 15th, they played Black Hawk at home and headed to Marshall on February 16th.

Belleville is 1-8 in the Capitol South. On February 16th, they hosted Wisconsin Heights and will go to Poynette on February 19th.
