Ponies Break 34 Game Losing Streak

 


In a game that was postponed for one day due to weather, the Monticello boys basketball team broke their 34 game losing streak with a win over Madison Country Day at home on January 26th.

Madison led late in the first half, but the Ponies went on a 17-5 run to close out the half, in the lead by 10 points. The Ponies came out of the locker room on fire, and started the second half with a 25-7 run and continued to keep the lead for the rest of the game. The Ponies won, 73-37.

Jon Errthum scored 24 points on the night, while Logan Marty contributed 16 points and Zach Price chipped in 10. Errthum pulled down 19 rebounds; Zach Price had four rebounds.

Madison’s Joel Steinberg and Dan Neill both scored 10 points. Colin Green put 7 on the board. Green was their leading rebounder with nine, and Andrew Mayer had four rebounds.

In the game against Pecatonica on January 28th, the Ponies were only down 2 points until the Vikings went on a 41-3 run. They did outscore Pec 26-12 in the last 15 minutes of regulation, but could not overcome the huge lead that Pec built. The final score of the game was Pecatonica 66, Monticello 38.

Logan Marty led the Ponies with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Zach Price scored 9 points and Braden Gafner contributed 7. Jon Errthum pulled down three rebounds.

Pecatonica’s AJ Hendrickson scored 21 points and had four rebounds. Colten Schraepfer scored 18 for the Vikings and Kole Kent scored 13 points and had eight rebounds for the night.

The Ponies traveled to Barneveld on February2nd and will head to Highland to play in a Six Rivers Challenge game on February 5th.
