New Glarus Suffers Tough Loss to Monroe in OT

The New Glarus boys basketball team traveled south to Monroe to face the Cheesemakers on Tuesday, December 29th. The Knights had a 13-point lead over Monroe at half-time after making nine 3-pointers, 37-24.

With a few minutes left to go in the game, Monroe took over the lead. The Knights tied it up and during the last few seconds in regulation took a shot to win but missed. The game went into overtime, but Monroe took the lead right away and never gave it up.

Head Coach Travis Sysko said, “Tonight was a tough loss.  I thought we played about as well as we could in the 1st half and built up a 13-point lead. Unfortunately, the shots were not falling in the 2nd half and we had some defensive breakdowns.”

The final score after OT was Monroe 74, New Glarus 62.

Gavin Binger and Zach Feller led the team with 11 points each. Binger also had three assists and Feller had four assists. Cullen Brooks put 10 points on the board for the Knights. Carter Sawdey led the Cheesemakers with 15 points and one assist, and Alex Tordoff and David Keegan contributed 13 points each for Monroe. Tordoff had one assist.

The Knights head to Belleville (2-3) on Thursday, January 7th. New Glarus is 5-5 in the Capitol South.
