LUCIUS A. EVENSON JR.

 

Lucius Andrew Evenson Jr., age 90, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at Four Winds Manor in Verona. He was born on August 20, 1925, at Appleton, WI, to his parents, Lucius and Anna (Saegert) Evenson.

Lucius's family moved to International Falls, MN, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He was then inducted into the U.S. Army during WWII. Following his time in the service Lucius graduated from the Dunwoody Technical School in Minneapolis, MN, and then began working for IBM. On April 14, 1946, he was united in marriage to Avalon Desizlets. The couple lived in Northbrook, IL, for 31 years until moving to Rochester, MN, in 1977. Lucius retired from IBM in 1987 after 41 years. He was a lifetime member of the AAL and very active church member throughout his life. Lucius served multiple terms on church councils and as church treasurer. In 2004 the couple moved to Verona, WI, to be closer to their daughter. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Verona. He loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables. He also enjoyed cooking and canning, often when asked what his secret ingredient was his reply was "Beer."

Lucius is survived by his children, Linda (Jeff) Parks, Belleville, WI, L. Steven (Diane) Evenson, Elk Grove, IL, and LeeAnn Redmond, Waukegan, IL; grandchildren, Mike (Kristy) Grotefend, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Ginny Parks, Belleville, WI, Rebecca (Jay) Geerdes, Woodridge, IL, Amanda (Shawn) Walsh, Elmhurst, IL, Stephanie (James) Buckwalter, Arlington Heights, IL, Elizabeth (Phillip) Mazur, Woodstock, IL, John Redmond, Waukegan, IL, and Thomas Redmond, Genoa, IL; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Addysen Mazur and Katie and Ian Grotefend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Avalon; a sister, Lou Ann Kolden; and a nephew, Alan Kolden.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 6705 Wesner Lane, Verona, WI, with burial with full military honors in the Frenchtown Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Friday, January 8, 2016, at the Resurrection Lutheran Church, Verona, WI.

The Becker-Beal Funeral Home of Belleville is serving the family.
