New Glarus Girls Win Over Evansville, Poynette
On Tuesday, December 8th, the New Glarus girls basketball team hosted Evansville. By halftime, the score was 36-25, with the Knights in the lead.
New Glarus won over Evansville, 66-40. Senior Vanessa Narveson led the team in scoring with 14 points. Senior Tamara Elzen scored 11 points, and had eight assists and six rebounds. Sophomore Willow Lee added 10 points to the board and had seven rebounds. Julia Barnaby led the Knights with 14 rebounds. The girls shot 17 of 20 from the free throw line.
Poynette traveled to New Glarus on Friday, December 11th. The score at halftime was 29-24, with the Knights in the lead.
Coach Kim Burton said, "The game was close the entire way, with Poynette staying within five points until about 6 minutes left in the game. The Knights never gave up and Seniors Vanessa and Tamara got things going defensively with some outstanding hustle plays that got the rest of the team fired up."
The final score was New Glarus 74, Poynette 55. Vanessa Narveson led the team in scoring with 30 points, including three 3-pointers and 7 of 8 from the free throw line. "She caught the hot hand with 6 minutes left in the game and really helped to break the game open at the end," explained Coach Burton.
Junior McKinley Righter put up 12 points and Willow Lee contributed 10 points. The Knights shot 18 of 22 from the free throw line.
New Glarus is 3-1-0 in the Capitol South conference and will host Albany on Thursday, December 17th and heads north to play Nekoosa on Saturday, December 19th.
