He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack E. Whitehead; and his sister, Donna Whitehead Burgie.

Rulon was an avid game hunter and fisherman, especially with his two sons. His greatest joy was to be in the forest on a camping trip which would sometimes include 10-15 relatives and friends. He worked for Garrett Freightlines, Pocatello, Idaho, as a diesel mechanic from 1946 until retirement in 1982. He loved his work and many of his co-workers became life-long friends. He was always excellent at solving technical problems and quickly became the "Mr. Fixit" for friends and neighbors. He learned to play the harmonica as a youngster to calm the sheep that he was tending and he continued to play until just recently.

He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Rulon will be cremated under the direction of Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus, Wisconsin, and his remains will be transported to Idaho Falls to Fielding Memorial Park to be placed near his wife, Beth.
