Training Exercise Held at Monticello School

On Saturday, October 3, 2015, a training exercise was held at Monticello Public Schools and at the Zwingli Church. There were a number of agencies involved, including Monticello Fire and First Response, as well as other emergency response agencies.

Volunteers, incldung students and their families, participated as role players as injured victims and they had special makeup, called moulage, applied to look as though they have been severely injured.

Full-scale exercises are very valuable to expose us to these situations and identify further training or resources that may be needed.

The scenario began with a a simulated call to the Green County dispatcher. The caller said, "I am at the basketball game at Monticello High School -- there's been an accident. Part of the gym wall and roof collapsed on the bleachers. There are tons of people in there screaming and crying."

The Monroe Clinic was also part of the exercise as "patients" were transported to the Emergency Room. Later the families were reunited at Zwingli UCC in Monticello

Tanna McKeon, Director of the Green County Emergency Management Office, received Homeland Security Grants to provide a series of exercises that tested the plans and coordination of multiple agencies responding to a large emergency involving dozens of injured persons.
