On Friday, Aug. 21, the New Glarus-Monticello football team was defeated by Edgerton, 48-34.

The Knights had 456 total yards of offense, with 403 rushing yards, while the Crimson Tide had 489 total yards and 457 rushing yards.

Senior running back Trey Taylor led New Glarus-Monticello with 233 rushing yards and four touchdowns; additionally, he had 53 yards receiving. Sophomore Tanner Jelle added 141 rushing yards and a two-point conversion. Junior quarterback John Chenoweth was two for seven with 53 yards passing and only one interception. Chenoweth also had 22 yards rushing.

"The team played well overall, especially on offense. It was a definite improvement from the scrimmage last week. We just had some critical turnovers that cost us in the end. The offensive line played very well, and the backs ran hard all night," explained Head Coach Desie Breadon. "We need to improve defensively, in aggressiveness, tackling, and technique for the scheme. That comes back to me as the head coach of teaching it better. We had a few guys out with injuries, and there were a lot of players that stepped up in their absence. If they keep improving the way they have and reaching their potential, they will be a very good team when conference comes around."

The Knights next face off against Darlington on the road on Friday, Aug. 28, at 7:00 p.m.
