Exciting Times for Belleville School District

The School District of Belleville has seen a fair amount of change over the last few years. However, this year the district will see the culmination of many of these changes. The introduction of Partnerships in Literacy, Project Lead the Way, and One to One Technology will ensure that each student will find opportunities that fit their interests, help them grow, and that will challenge them. Implementing these initiatives will make the 2015-2016 school year one of discovery, engagement, and high achievement.

Over the course of the last few weeks, we have introduced you to these three initiatives. Together, each will offer students new ways to discover information. The Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy (PCL) model brings information to students at their level. We realize that students learn and grow at different paces. The PCL model puts the tools in place to reach students as they are learning and growing at their individual pace. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) gives students an opportunity to experience new subject areas.

Under the new PLTW curriculum, students can discover the trades and progress from learning the basics to having the ability to recognize and solve engineering problems. One to One Technology puts information at students’ finger tips. Through mobile devices, students will have access to sources otherwise closed off to them.

Our three initiatives also seek to further engage our students and community in learning. The PCL model inspires teachers to encourage higher level thinking among their students. These strategies engage students and teachers in learning together. PLTW opens the door for students to engage with the community. As this program grows, we hope to offer apprenticeships, internships, and other opportunities for students to gain hands on experience with the trades.

One to One Technology allows students to take their learning beyond the confines of the school as well. Our High School students will take their mobile devices home with them with the intent that they use the technology to enhance their educational experience.

Most importantly, we feel these three initiatives will usher in higher student achievement. As a district that remains committed to providing all students with quality, personalized learning that prepares them to meet current and future challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, we want to offer our students courses that challenge them and help them grown as learners. Each of these three initiatives supports building a whole community of learning. Through the PCL, PLTW, and One to One Technology, students will receive the assistance and support needed to achieve their personal goals.

We look forward to the beginning of the school years and all the possibilities surrounding it.

As we continue to work toward implementing these three initiatives, we will keep families and the community informed of any updates.

If you currently do not receive information from the school district, but would like to, please contact the school. Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved with Belleville Schools.
