In early 2012, library supporters organized to build a new library in New Glarus. Those efforts resulted in donations pledged totaling over $725,000. With the location unsettled and ongoing Village Board deliberations, the campaign paused.

In May 2015, following referendum results in April 2014, the Village Board unanimously passed a resolution supporting $1,000,000 in borrowing for the new library and Glarner Park as the site, adjacent to the fire station.
