Sheep and Wool Festival Offers Family Fun
When it comes to family friendly, the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival ranks near the top of events that offer something for all ages. The Midwest’s premier fiber and sheep festival will be held on September 11-13, at Jefferson Fair Park, Jefferson, WI, conveniently located midway between Milwaukee and Madison, and less than two hours north of Chicago.
On Saturday and Sunday the event features sheep shows, shearing demonstrations, a newborn lamb display, Hall of Breeds, history exhibit, antique tractors display, as well as auctions and educational sessions for shepherds of all ages and experience. Another highlight of the weekend event is the Crook & Whistle Stock Dog Trial, which runs all three days and features nationally recognized handlers.
In addition, the Country Store, which opens at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, features over 130 vendors from across the nation offering everything for the fibers enthusiast from yarn to spinning wheels; looms to knitting needles.
A main focus of the festival is the fiber arts and over seventy classes (full or half-day) are offered from Aran Knitting to learning to use a Navajo drop spindle, taught by renowned instructors from across the U.S. Class descriptions and information on instructors are available online.
