Eating Well Before Blood Drives

 


From the information sent to me by the American Red Cross, and I would like to share this with you before our next drive on August 14, 2015.

“Give your body plenty of iron.” When you donate whole blood or double red cells, your body loses some iron contained in red blood cells. Eat plenty of iron-rich food to replace these cells between donations. Foods rich in iron include: red meat, broccoli, fish, spinach, poultry, raisins, beans, prunes, iron fortified cereal, shrimp, tomatoes, oysters, rice, peas, watermelon and potatoes.
